One of the public’s greatest challenges, in terms of determining, whether statements/ claims, made by any politician and/ or elected official, is factual, or not, and learning how to differentiate between these, is to be able to proceed, consistently, in a realistic, fact – based manner! Perhaps more so than at any previous time (especially in recent memory), we have heard one successful candidate constantly label anything which might either disagree with him, or criticize him, as fake news. It might be interesting to note, however, the fact – checking websites, have determined, this same candidate (as well as now, as a public official), has made far more false claims, etc, than anyone in recent history! This article will briefly review, some of the aspects, etc, which might help us better understand and appreciate, the differences between true, half – true, false (lies), and/ or bold – lies (what one website has labeled, Pants on Fire).
1. True: One might think it natural and simple, to determine when a particular statement or claim, is truthful! However, perhaps because a truthful politician may be somewhat of an oxymoron, and certainly seems to be rare, indeed, it is often difficult to differentiate between truth, and political spin. We usually compare a politician’s statements to be true, when they are accurate, and responsive!
2. Half – truth: Unfortunately, the truth does not always, feed into, a politician’s agenda, etc. Many will then merge true statements, with his favorite spin, and proceed, as if he is thoroughly honest, etc.
3. Lie: It might be the politically correct, thing, to refer to these claims, as being false, but, if the individual knows, and realizes, what is true, but prefers to substitute his own particular perspective, he is probably lying. Ask yourself if the person, proceeds in a generally truthful manner, or continuously reverts to bold – faced lies!
4. Bold lie (also known as, Pants on Fire): No politician has ever been as prone to using bold lies, as the current occupant of the White House. It often appears he has little use, for identifying and/ or differentiating, actual facts, from his personal perspective/ position/ agenda. He often will double – down on his previous positions, even when the preponderance of facts, disputes his ideas. Proceed with your eyes – wide – open, so you are able to recognize when a political leader, is telling the truth, or, even, has any tendency to do so!
Since so much, often, is, at risk, based on who we elect, how closely will you examine and consider, truth, as a factor? If the public fails to care about the truth/ facts, why are we surprised, when we continue to elect, lying politicians!
